Writing -
Country Style

I began telling myself stories at an early age because home was difficult. Stories let me live a hidden life I controlled. These early tales were verbalized deep in the woods of our rural farm. In junior high, I was introduced to essays and fell in love with the actual act of physically putting words on paper. By the time I moved through high school and into college, I was deeply committed to the act of writing. And despite the frequent derailments life tends to throw, it is a commitment I have kept for all the decades since.
I write in a room on the second story of our venerable old farmhouse perched in the Cascade foothills. It is definitely ubiquitous to writers everywhere. One wall is filled with bookcases. Among the shelves are several dedicated to the works of friends. The credenza is stacked with WIPs from other local writers seeking input as they work through their projects. Files, odd little scraps of paper, Post-its, and a smattering of writing implements litter the wide desktop. It could best be described it as quasi controlled chaos.
When not writing, I am the person in charge of a tiny press, Boho Books. A questionable decision on the part of the owner. (Oh, wait! That is me.) As such, I spend time working with other writers, trying to provide a literary cranny in a town dedicated to logging and rodeos.
